These great "Share the Road" signs are going up all over the neighborhood and I see more and more people biking around. We left our bikes in Ohio but are soon to find some here. A popular Shreveport Times journalists and blogger, Alexandyr Kent, is documenting his 2 week experiment of only biking and no car using. I like that he's making a statement but after seeing other experiments like that in the media I've learned that the experimenter rarely makes it sustainable. Like, they save their big Sam's Club run for after the 2 weeks. Or they stocked up big time right before the experiment began. But I guess it's inspiring still.

go shreveport! there are tons of cyclists in the triangle - racing & commuting - but still there have been lots more bikes lately. we still hear about bike accidents all the time, though, so we need as much "share the road" education as we can. bike lanes would be even better! my biking is mostly to work and back, and whenever we go downtown. the grocery store is the biggest challenge, though c beau & i have done a few trips on our bikes recently. fortunately, whole foods is just around the corner from us. the path our regular grocery store has some pretty hard core hills and busy roads, so we haven't tried that yet. i'm sure h belle & p beau could handle it - SF is good practice for climbing!!
that's so awesome about s'port! i'm gradually building up courage to use my bike as a commuter, the cars scare me a little. mostly, i use it for fun/exercise and stick to the more recreational roads that also have cars on them but are more accustomed to bikers. i don't have a lock yet, so i only ride it if i can take it in. not sure i could swing the grocery store thing unless i only got enough groceries to fill my back pack. now, i walk and can carry my 2 cloth bags plus the heaviest stuff in my backpack. And about the hills, thank goodness for gears!!
