I've been wanting to start up a habit of Word! postings for a while now, so here's it's inauguration! Every so often, I notice that the same word keeps appearing in popular media and vernacular conversation, as if that word is floating atop everyone's consciousness at the same time. This also happens with trends in art, fashion, architecture and design—I like to call it "riding the wave". Others might say everyone has their "fingers on the same pulse". Either way, they're fun to pay attention to and I'm curious to get your feedback on their meaning to you or a context in which you've recently been exposed to it...

i love the daily show's spoofs of the spin masters from news shows. check out the episodes the day after obama's address & jindal's response. so many different channels described it as "the [x name big headlining band] opening for the [y name tiny band]," like "the rolling stones opening for little river band." same kind of idea. lately, christian has noticed a lot of folks putting "y'all" after status updates on FB. haven't noticed it as a trend myself, but it is interesting how you'll notice these things and how they can be different to different folks. i often find when i'm having conversations with folks that we all are using the same "soundbites" - occurs across contexts -professional, social, etc.
ha! totally. daily show is definitely sensitive to these things:-) the word, like you said, can very possibly be related to a personal strand of interest, like with the word "metrics", i feel like it is related to my interest in sustainability. and also our country is getting more interested in this too, as well as efficiency. so i notice lots of folks having the need to measure results...using metrics...
i hope you and M Belle will also post a Word! is so struck:-)
