I am LOVING the latest Radiohead album,
In Rainbows. Makes doing the dishes so much more fun! It is quite different from any of their other albums (which I love), it is jazzier and a bit more soulful and rockin'. I really like the direction and feel like my tastes have evolved in the same way their sound has, which is a good sign you've found artists you can grow alongside...continually changing and continually nourishing. I already got my birthday present, tickets for me & Pat to see them (AND Beck, could I dream up a better present?) at the
Outside Lands Festival this August in GG Park. The festival
lineup makes me want to pee on myself (sorry!) it is so good, but it is pretty pricey, so we're only going on Friday. The In Rainbows album art features some great imagery and exciting typography (see image above) and the packaging is paper only, no plastic jewel case, which is nice to see.
Speaking of inventive typography, I just read in article in the latest
Communication Arts magazine about a French graphic designer,
Catherine Zask. Some of her most interesting work involves deconstructing letterforms with some visually stimulating results. The series is called
Alphabetempo, from which the image below comes. She does a lot of silkscreening also, which is something I'd like to get into one of these days.
